As soapbox season rolls around, we look at the world’s favorite festival of crashes and creativity.
The Red Bull Soapbox Race with all its craziness will take place in Baku this September, Trend Life.
The country’s most innovative and witty amateur drivers will race their homemade soapbox crafts. Hurry up to join one of the most expected events of this summer!
The deadline for submission is July 24. For more information, visit the official site www.redbullsoapboxrace.az .
The Red Bull Soapbox Race is an international event that started back in the year 2000, in Brussels. Since then, more than a hundred Red Bull Soapbox Races have been organized globally.
The contest rules are pretty simple! Racers are welcomed to build their own soapbox and compete against gravity. Each of these hand-made machines lack engine on them.
Drivers go to the top of a hill, gravity does its thing, and reach the bottom of the hill and people cheer. Or, as is quite often the case; gravity does its thing, you see a spectacular crash and people cheer anyway. All the rest is just bells and whistles.
The Red Bull Soapbox races are held on a variety of different city courses around the world. The teams are all local amateur entrants and the vehicles are powered by nothing more than gravity, leg muscles and perhaps a drop of Red Bull.
There's a panel of expert judges and points on offer for the craziness of your creation.
The events are primarily races, so getting across the finish line as quickly as possible will stand you in good stead, but there are a couple of other criteria to consider.
Along with speed, your team will also be judged on creativity and showmanship. To win you'll need to channel the aerodynamic know-how of Adrian Newey, the artistic flair of Salvador Dali and the stage presence of Freddie Mercury.
Many Baku racers have already took part in the race. Among them is Rauf Gambarov
"It's a big challenge for us and we are delighted that this momentous event will in Azerbaijan.
We look forward to the race. The garages in which we will build our soapbox crafts are ready. Of course, we hope to win, although a spectacular crash is also a fun experience", he said.
