Winners of Mugham contest named

The International Mugham Center in Baku hosted a gala-concert of the television competition "Mugham" with participation of honored artists Babek Niftaliyev, Nigar Shabanova and Miralam Miralamov, Trend Life reports.
The audience enjoyed the wonderful musical performance of mugham singers.
The guests were amazed by the impressive vocals of musicians, who were accompanied by instrumental ensemble "Buta". The ensemble include talented musicians Rovshan Gurbanov (tar), Jeyhun Muradov (kamancha), Nadir Talibov (balaban), honored artist Tarana Aliyeva (canon), Amil Mustafayev (nagara), Soltan Aliyev ( nagara), Aslan Bayramov (gosha nagara) and Ruslan Aliyev (drums).
The culmination of the event was the song "Karabakh". The soulful performance of singers raised a great storm of applause.
Mugham is one of the most valuable monuments of the material and spiritual culture of the nation and the greatest achievement of the musical and poetic art of the Azerbaijani people.
The peculiarity of mugham itself firstly with the development of a modal system. It contains seven main modes - Rast, Shur, Segah (are especially common), Shushtar, Bayaty-Shiraz, Chahargah, Humayun and three collateral kinds - shahnaz, sarendj, chargah in some other form. Every mode represents a strongly organized scale, possessing a firm tonic prop (maye), and each step of the mode has its melodic function.
The artistic value of Azerbaijani mugham is recognized worldwide. The art of mugham reflects moral values, traditions, music, literature, native language, patriotism and the history of Azerbaijani people.
Mugham entered into global cultural heritage at the beginning of the last century by attracting the attention of cultural experts and music critics around the globe.
The lyrical music of Mugham attracts the young and old with its delightful sounds. At present, this pearl of Azerbaijani music art continues to take new forms, attracting attention worldwide.
In 2003, UNESCO recognized mugham as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
