By Amina Nazarli
A jazz "trio" of Azerbaijani-British-Italian musicians led by young jazz pianist Elchin Shirinov will perform in Paris this spring.
The trio including Italian bassist Andrea Di Biase, British drummer Dave Hamlett and the Azerbaijani pianist will represent Azerbaijan in the 16th edition of the Saint Germain des Prés Jazz Festival on May 19-31.
The trio’s performance is scheduled for May 27 at the place of Maison des Cultures du Monde with the support of the European Azerbaijan Society.
Launched in 2001 in the famous Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, heart of jazz in Europe, the Festival is one of the great jazz events in Paris.
Every spring, the event brings together many talented young artists and groups from around the world.
Elchin is a unique talent making careful synthesizes of African American music and mugham, a unique national music, which leads one to quite a different world, that is full of music and love.
The 33-year-old young pianist has participated in such significant events as the 2010 and 2013 Voicingers International Jazz Festival in Poland and 2013 Montreux Jazz Festival, and this proves that one becomes the musician not by deeds but by birth.
So far, this jazz trio performed in several concerts in Europe with different tunes, along with works of Azerbaijani composers.
