The works of the famous Azerbaijani artist, Tahir Salahov will be exhibited at the “Traditions and Modernity” international art festival in Lisbon, Portugal with the support of the Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry.
The exhibition to be held from October 8 to 17 will bring together artists from more than 40 counties and 30 regions of Russia.
Organized by the Moscow Social Foundation of culture's support and modern art's development, the event has been carried out since 2007.
Until 2014 the festival was held in Moscow, and since then it takes place in Lisbon.
Earlier in 2009, Azerbaijan was represented at the event by honored artist Farman Gulamov, in 2011 by honored artist Sakit Mammadov, in 2012 by Rashad Mehtiyev and Maryam Alakbarli in 2013 by Namig Mammadov and in 2014 by a group of artists headed by Tahir Salahov and Sakit Mammadov.
One of the most prominent representatives of the Azerbaijani art, -- Tahir Salahov -- is the vice-president and honorary president of the International Association of Plastic Arts of UNESCO, the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts, People's Artist of the USSR, Azerbaijan and Russia, and is the winner of a number of high awards, including the State Prize of the USSR and Azerbaijan.
The artist became one of the leading representatives of the so-called "severe style", a trend in Soviet art of the 1960s that aimed to set off a hard, publicist, and realist view against the ceremonial "polished reality" of the Joseph Stalin era.
Salahov's early works showed the life and work of the Baku oil workers and portraits of famous composers, using contrasting red, black, light and dark-grey shades.
Later, his paintings became more peaceful and lyrically contemplative, lines became smoother and more melodious, and the palette more sophisticated.
Currently, Salahov lives in Moscow and holding classes. He also has a studio at the Moscow Art Institute.
