A promotional video, shot as part of the “Ages’ memory” will be shown in Baku’s Old part “Mugam Club” on June 4.
It is jointly organized by the “Dan” International Youth Public Association and the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
The Mugam Club which is located at the Hagigat Rzayeva street 9,
Icherisheher (Old City) is a very colorful place, which reflects
the traditional atmosphere.
The event will propagandize Azerbaijani beautiful heritage,
including national clothes, Kalagayi (kerchief), jewelry, carpet
weaving and other samples of folk art.
The project was set up with tourists and the city’s residents in mind. Visitors to Azerbaijan during 2015 European Games (June 12-28) will have the opportunity to discover the country's rich cultural heritage, the beauty of its arts, customs and traditions.
Azerbaijan's national costume is the result of a long process which testifies to the development of the nation's material and intellectual culture, as reflected in its history and specific features.
Some twelve stages can be identified in the formation of Azerbaijan national costume. Each stage saw further development and improvement, corresponding to changing tastes and living conditions.
Some centuries ago, women dressed in accordance to their family status and age. The costume of a maiden differed noticeably from that of a married woman. Young women wore attractive garments for example.
Kalagayi, made from fine and soft silk has been an integral part of women's national costume in Azerbaijan. Silk Kalagayi protects from both the hot sun and the cold wind because silk is cool in summer and warm in winter.
The traditional headwear Kalagayi was included in the list of protected intangible heritages of UNESCO.
The European Games, which will host some 6,000 athletes and about 3,000 delegations during 17 days will be the first in the history of the country and Europe.
Some 20 sports including 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic will be played during the Games.
