"Arshin mal alan" staged in Uzbekistan

The outstanding Azerbaijani operetta "Arshin mal alan" ("The Cloth Peddler") by world-known Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli was staged in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Azertag State News Agency reported.
The musical comedy was staged in Uzbek language. at the State Music Theatre
Arshin Mal Alan is one of the most well-known and dearly-loved stories among Azerbaijanis.
Considered to be the first of its kind in the entire Muslim world, the operetta was composed and staged by the founder of Azerbaijani opera and classical music composer and playwright Uzeyir Hajibeyli in 1913 in the Azerbaijani capital Baku.
Over the last 100 years, the operetta has been successfully performed in a plethora of languages in over 60 countries of the world, including Austria, France, China, Greece, India, Russia, and Turkey.
The operetta will also be staged in Paris on September 17 and Strasbourg on September 19. The events will be organized by TURKSOY.
On September 7, it conquered hearts of some 3,000 Los Angeles theater lovers at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The American opera singers sang in original Azerbaijani, with projected English translations, and speaking English.
