Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, will host various events over the International Museum Day, which has been organized worldwide on May 18 since 1977.

This date appeared in the calendar when an offer to establish a cultural holiday was accepted at a session of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Further, it began to be marked in more than 150 countries.

The Baku city culture and tourism department said that relevant events will be held in the house museums of Jafar Jabbarli, Jalil Mammadguluzade, Azim Azimzade, the memorial museums of Mammad Said Ordubadi, Nariman Narimanov, the State Museum of the History of Religion and the Heydar Aliyev Center.

One of the events will be organized in the Philharmonic Garden, known in the past as the "Gubernator Garden".

The events will allow to raise public awareness on how important museums are for the development of the society.

Museums in various countries of the world carry out major scientific and educational work through collecting and storing monuments of material and spiritual culture. Furthermore, the society expresses its relationship with historical and cultural heritage through museums.

A museum is also the best guidebook communicating our past and present to future generations.
