Azerbaijan National Art Museum has hosted a captivating evening dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Azerbaijan's prominent composer, Uzeyir Hajibayli as part of the "Music in the Museum" project, Azernews reports.
Recognized as the founder of modern professional musical art in Azerbaijan and celebrated for creating the first opera in the East, Hajibayli's contributions to music are nothing short of monumental. His legacy as a composer and musicologist continues to resonate in the hearts of many.
The concert program, curated by the International Mugham Center, featured the Jahangir Jahangirov Choir.
Under the artistic direction of the distinguished educator Tarana Yusifova, the performers mesmerized the audience with stirring renditions of compositions from Hajibayli's iconic works, including the poignant opera "Leyli and Majnun" and the lively musical comedy "The Cloth Peddler." Alongside these celebrated pieces, the program also highlighted other timeless compositions, showcasing the depth and richness of Hajibeyli’s musical genius.
Adding a layer of artistic depth to the evening, a pantomime performance involving talented students from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts brought to life the emotive themes and characters from "Leyli and Majnun." Their expressive interpretations and seamless choreography offered a poignant visual narrative that complemented the music beautifully, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the emotional world of the opera.
As the final notes lingered in the air, the audience responded with enthusiastic applause.
