Uzbekistan will celebrate Azerbaijani Theater Day, Azernews reports.

An agreement on this was reached during a meeting between director of the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Uzbekistan Akif Marifli and director of the Mukimi Uzbek State Musical Theater Azim Mullakhanov.

The theater director Azim Mullakhanov said that the cultural institution he leads continues to delight viewers with its rich repertoire, which features plays by local and foreign authors. The theater's repertoire also includes the famous Azerbaijani play "Mother-in-law".

Director of the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center in Uzbekistan Akif Marifli stressed that great attention is paid to theatrical art in Azerbaijan, which has a long history, and that the National Theater Day, which is more than 150 years old, is celebrated annually.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on holding the Day of Azerbaijani Theater by the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Uzbekistan as part of the traditional international theater days held annually at the Mukimi Uzbek State Musical Theater. Concerts will be organized there, featuring Azerbaijani songs, dances, and scenes from theater productions.

In addition, the Cultural Center will donate books about Azerbaijani theater art, culture, history, and literature to the Mukimi State Theater; mutual tours, master classes with the participation of artists invited from Azerbaijan, etc. are planned.

The National Theater was created in the 1870s at the initiative of prominent playwright Mirza Fatali Axundov.

Adventures of the Lankaran Khanate Vizier was the first dramatic work played on the stage of the Azerbaijani theater. Its premiere took place on March 10, 1873, at the initiative of Azerbaijani print media founder Hasan-bay Zardabi and dramatist and public figure Najaf-bay Vazirov.

Eminent cultural and public figures, like Hasan bay Zardabi, Najaf bay Vazirov, Jalil Mammadguluzada, Jafar Jabbarli, Ilyas Afandiyev, Huseyn Arablinski, and many others played an invaluable role in the formation and development of the Azerbaijani theater.

So, March 10 is traditionally celebrated as National Theater Day in Azerbaijan.

The country has also been hosting numerous theater festivals and cultural events to highlight the importance of theater art in Azerbaijani cultural life.
