On November 11, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) began in Baku, Azernews reports.
Hosting this prestigious event, the highest platform for global climate change discussions, is a demonstration of the high level of trust and confidence placed in Azerbaijan. It reflects the successful collaboration fostered under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev with international organizations.
Within the framework of the session, on November 15 at 13:00, the 2nd High-Level Meeting of Ministers of Culture on Culture-Based Climate Action will take place.
The meeting, organized by the Ministries of Culture of the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and Azerbaijan, is expected to bring together around 120 guests, including officials, experts, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. During the event, efforts will be made to achieve international consensus on including high-level dialogue on culture, particularly the role of arts and cultural heritage in the climate action agenda.
On November 16, at 11:00, within the framework of COP29, a session dedicated to Azerbaijan's "Culture for Climate" (C4C) initiative will be organized by the UNFCCC Friends of Culture-Based Climate Action Group and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This session, featuring high-level representatives and leading experts, will discuss topics such as how cultural approaches can promote climate-related issues and increase inclusivity.
Later that same day, at 15:30, there will be a presentation of Azerbaijan’s "Culture for Climate" (C4C) initiative. The C4C initiative aims to place culture at the center of climate discussions, inspiring meaningful behavioral changes globally and demonstrating that culture is a powerful tool for a sustainable future.
It is worth noting that in preparation for COP29, the Ministry of Culture has organized several events throughout this year. These include a presentation in Paris at the UNESCO headquarters on cultural events related to COP29, a conference titled "COP29 and Culture: The Cultural Dimensions of Climate Change," panel and plenary sessions at the VI World Intercultural Dialogue Forum on environmental protection and the impact of climate change on cultural heritage, a special conference in Aghdam city on the impact of landmines and unexploded ordnance on cultural property, the presentation of a bibliographic book on "Azerbaijan Ecology" dedicated to the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World," and other events.
