Chairman of ICOM Azerbaijan elected [PHOTO]

By unanimous decision of the newly elected members of the presidium, the director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum Shirin Melikova has been elected as chairman of Azerbaijani National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
The decision was made at plenary meeting of ICOM Azerbaijan held at the National Museum of Art, Trend Life reported.
The leading specialist of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum Rema Zeynalova was elected as the secretary of ICOM Azerbaijan.
At the event, the chairman ICOM Azerbaijan Shirin Melikova spoke about activities for the period 2016-2019.
ICOM Azerbaijan Committee Accountant Konul Abbasova presented a financial report. Members of the election commission Makhfuza Zeynalova and Hajar Alkhasova presented the candidates for membership in the Presidium of ICOM Azerbaijan.
Following the submission of the candidates, the participants were invited to express their opinion by open vote. Based on the results of the vote, new members of ICOM Azerbaijan were selected.
Next, elections were held for the chairman and secretary of ICOM Azerbaijan among the newly elected members of the presidium.
According to the charter, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) holds elections of the chairman and managerial staff every three years.
Being a public organization, ICOM Azerbaijan unites the country's museums, science, culture and art figures as well as all those directly connected with museum work.
ICOM Azerbaijan was established by the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture in 1993. From its first days, Azerbaijani museums created close relationships with the world’s museums in order to popularize the country's cultural heritage.
For this purpose, representatives from such national museum institutions as Azerbaijani State Museum of Arts National Carpet Museum, Samad Vurgun House-Museum, Shirvanshahs Palace Architectural Reserve Museum, the State Museum of Musical Culture and Art Gallery have participated in conferences, workshops, trainings etc in Paris, Stavanger, Melbourne, Barcelona, Seoul, Washington, Shanghais, Vienna, Nairobi, Abidjan, Edinburgh, Naphplion, Barbados, Moscow, and St.-Petersburg.
