Azerbaijani and Russian ballet stars to share the same stage

The Azerbaijani State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater will stage the ballet "Giselle" by Adolphe Adam on November 17.

Leading soloists of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia, honored artists of Russia prima ballerina Anna Nikulina (Giselle) and Ruslan Skvortsov (Count Albert) will perform in the main parts of the ballet, Trend Life reported.

Anna Nikulina successfully performed on the stages of many leading theaters in Europe, the U.S. and Japan.

Along with the soloists of the Bolshoi Theater, the leading soloists of the ballet troupe of the Azerbaijani theater, Ayan Eyvazova (Mirta) and Timur Odushev ( Han) will also take part in the performance.

The ballet will be conducted by Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, laureate of international competitions of conductors Eyyub Guliyev.

"Giselle" ballet is about a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. The Wilis, a group of supernatural women who dance men to death, summon Giselle from her grave. They target her lover for death, but Giselle's great love frees him from their grasp.

The romantic ballet in two acts was first performed in 1841.

The performance was an unqualified triumph. Giselle became hugely popular and was staged in Europe and the U.S.
