Featuring the perfect blend of old-world charm and futuristic look, Japan is the home of the highest technologies and the brightest culture and rituals.

The Land of the Rising Sun a mysterious place full of exceptional charm and attraction.

Japanese art has extremely rich history and traditions, characterized by unique techniques and styles.

It covers a wide range of art styles, including ancient pottery, sculpture, ink painting and calligraphy on silk and paper, woodblock prints, origami and much more.

An exhibition dedicated to Japanese art opened in Azerbaijan National Art Museum on March 5.

The event continues a series of exposition titled “World art in the collection of Azerbaijan National Art Museum”. The exposition features art works from museum’s fund. By the way, there are about 18,000 exhibits in museum's collections.

Prominent art and public figures, representatives of diplomatic missions attended the exhibition.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism Sevda Mammadaliyeva said that the relations between Azerbaijan and Japan successfully develop in various fields including in culture.

It was stressed that the museum’s collection related to Japanese art includes about 200 art works. Some of them are dating from the 18th-20th centuries.

Mammadaliyeva expressed her confidence that the exposition will arouse great interest among the museum visitors. She stressed that exhibition will promote the further development and strengthening of cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Japan.

Chairman of the Azerbaijan Union of Artists, People's Artist of Azerbaijan Farhad Khalilov noted that the exhibition is a significant event in the cultural life of the city. He underlined that Japanese art has always aroused great interest among the public.

Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Teruyuki Katori said that museum's collection includes exhibits of Japanese art dating back to the 18th and 20th centuries. He stressed that through exhibition the general public can become more familiar with the Japanese art.

Then the guests of the event got acquainted with the exhibition.

Today Azerbaijan National Art Museum has a solid collection of Japanese art works.

Special attention should be given samples of Japanese pottery. The exposition displays art works of the 18th-20th centuries made in famous Japanese ceramic centers.

There are various dishes and plates with a bright pattern, large decorative ceremonial vases with gilding and figured modeling, small elegant vases with exquisite decor, traditional teapots, tea sets and much more.

Among the exhibit there are also a few ivory boxes decorated with various scenes and patterns, amazing fans with pearls and very valuable katana with carved bone scabbard.

The exhibition introduces visitors the samples of Japanese embroidery, striking with their beautiful color tones in the image of landscape.
