By Aygul Salmanova
A resident of Jil village of Lankaran region found pottery vessels while digging a water well in his yard.
Amid Khurshudzade found these pottery vessels in five-meter depth while digging a water well in the yard area. While one of these vessels was broken, the other two were intact. Khurshudzade also showed these items to the elderly men and history teachers of the village.
He noted that the items found are similar to those used in everyday life.
Khurshudzade intends to transfer the pottery vessels to relevant institutions for investigation.
The local residents claim that these pottery vessels are likely to belong to several hundred years ago. More precise investigations, however, will be carried out by historians.
Lankaran is one of the oldest cities in Azerbaijan, however, the time of its establishment is not yet known. Excavations carried out on the territory of the region confirm the existence of ancient settlements dating back to the Bronze Age (3rd - 2nd millennium BC).
The city itself is interesting by the Lankaran fortress (18th century) and the Kichik-Bazar mosque (19th century). In 100 km. north of Lankaran lies one of the most beautiful cities of the Middle Ages - Hanega, in which fortified walls (12th-14th centuries), the mosque and burial vault of Pir Hussein, the minaret and other ancient structures are preserved.
Right in the center of the city one of the most beautiful architectural monuments - the Mirahmad Khan’s house is situated.
Recently, nearly 150 coin denominations and fables containing 17 years of the 11th-12th centuries have been found in the country’s southern region Lankaran. Ancient coins were discovered accidentally during farming and handed over to the stations collecting metals.
Among the finds the coins of Seljuk sultans, Atabeys, including their masters are worth mentioning. These objects were of particular importance for the nation to study the history of its ancient statehood, to investigate commodities and money relations of the Atabeys state.
Additionally, a stone statue belonging to the Middle Ages was found in the region. The stone monument, on which legendary mythical animal is reflected, was discovered during the excavation by local resident Javanshir Hasanzadeh in Mionovo, Kosalar village.
Furthermore, 15 years earlier, an old musical instrument was found in the paddy field in the village of Sopnakaran of the region. After relevant investigations, conducted several years ago, a commission consisting of foreign experts stated that the instrument is approximately 4500 years old.
