Azerbaijani writer Shirin Shafiyeva won a prestigious literary prize "Russian Award".

The list of 2016 winners includes nine writers and poets from six countries - Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal and the United States.

Shirin Shafiyeva awarded the second place in the nomination "Major prose" for the manuscript "Salsa and Spindle", Trend Life reported.

"Salsa and the Spindle" is a novel about love, dance and magic. Salsa is kind of Latin dance, and the Spindle is a nickname of the dance teacher which was given him due to the special dance movement. Dance is actually a metaphor, says the heroine.

The "Russian Award" was established in 2005. All poets and writers from different countries, who write in Russian, can become the laureate of the prize.

In 2013, Azerbaijani poet Nijat Mammadov became a laureate of the "Russian Award" in the category "Poetry" for a work "Meeting place is everywhere."
