Azerbaijan to increase tax share on cigarette, alcohol

Azerbaijan’s parliament is planning to change the share of excise tax on produced tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.
A parliamentary committee began discussion amendments in the Tax Code on December 29.
Currently, the share of excise tax on tobacco products is 12.5 percent. The share of tax for 1000 cigarettes, as well as cheroots and cigarillos (thin cigarettes) is expected to set in the amount of 10 manats ($12.75). For cigarettes and its substitutes, the figure will be four manats for 1000 pieces.
Moreover, an increase in the share of tax for algological beverages is also expected, according to the law.
The share of tax on drinking alcohol, vodka, liquor and fortified drinks will constitute two manats, on brandy and cognac products, six manats and on champagne-2.5 manats. The figure for beer and beer drinks will be 0.2 manats.
Currently, the share of tax for alcoholic drinks makes up 0.8 manats, vodka, liquor and fortified drinks - 0.5 manats, brandy and cognac products-0.2 manats, champagne-0.2 manats, beer and beer drinks - 0.08 manats and wine -0.1 manats.
