Azerbaijan becomes part of UN Committee of experts on tax coop

Azerbaijan's Tax Ministry has joined the updated structure of UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.

The ministry reported that the Head of International Treaties division at the Azerbaijani Taxes Ministry's International Affairs Department, Ulvi Yusifov, has become a member of the committee.

The committee functioning under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) comprises around 26 experts from various parts of the world. Azerbaijan becomes the second member of the committee from the CIS region after Russia.

The competence of ECOSOC includes viewing international economic and social problems, as well as environmental issues. The Council was founded in 1946 in accordance with the UN charter as a central forum for discussing such problems and working out political recommendations.

In accordance with its large mandate, ECOSOC is responsible for using almost 70 per cent of human and financial resources of the whole UN system, including the activity of 14 specialised agencies, nine 'functional' commissions and five regional ones.
