Iran's potatoes exported to Azerbaijan, Russia and Persian Gulf states

Iranian potatoes are being exported to Iraq, Afghanistan,
Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, and the countries of Persian Gulf,
Trend news agency reported referring to the IRIB News.
The head of Iran's National Potato Association Mohammadrahim Niyazi
said that by December Iran has exported around 420,000 tons of
potatoes, and this figure is expected to rise to 600,000 tons by
March 2013.
Speaking at the news conference, Niyazi said that Iran's potato
producing capacity is 4.8 to 5 million tons.
"Due to good spring rainfalls in the current crop year, it is
forecasted that the 166,000 hectares of land would produce 5.2
million tons of potatoes," Niyazi said.
Speaking of potato chips, Niyazi expressed hope that Iran would be
able to increase the amount of those in the near future.
"Of 5 million tons of potatoes being produced in the country, only
500,000 tons used for potato chips, and this figure is too small,"
Niyazi said, adding that it needs to be increased.
