Post-Soviet space becoming single labour market - minister

The CIS Advisory Council for Labour, Migration and Social Protection has become a good organisational and legal basis for effective cooperation in the field of labour and social protection in the former Soviet Union spaces, Azerbaijani Minister of Labour and Social Protection Fizuli Alakbarov said in his speech at the 25th meeting of the council in Baku on Wednesday.

"The post-Soviet space is becoming a single labour market. This meeting contributes to better labour rights protection of CIS member states citizens in this area and will be a good platform to exchange experience in the field of labour and social protection," Alakbarov said, Trend news agency reported.

In addition issues of forming a coherent social and demographic policy of the CIS countries are important, he said.

Prior to the meeting, Deputy Minister Ilgar Rahimov told reporters that the Azerbaijani side is currently holding talks with the Russian delegation chaired by the Russian Deputy Labour and Social Security Minister Tatiana Blinova, who arrived in Baku to participate at the Council meeting. The parties discussed the issues on the rights of Azerbaijani labour migrants in Russia.

Issues related to the results of the CIS member states cooperation in the social and labour fields and challenges for the future were discussed at the two-day meeting.

Participants noted the need for creation of national Internet resources in the social protection field and discussed issues of migration, labour, work conditions, and exchange of experience in this field.
