WB to finalize action program in Azerbaijan in January
The World Bank (WB) will finalize work on an action program for the next two years in Azerbaijan in January 2013, WB Acting Country Manager for Azerbaijan Saida Bagirli, told Trend news agency on Monday.
"Now we are assessing the progress of two previous years' strategy, preparing a report (Country Partnership Strategy Progress Report) and defining a program for the next two years. We hope to finish the work in early 2013. In January we will prepare this report, coordinate and formalize a program for the next two years," Bagirli said.
The current strategy of cooperation with Azerbaijan is intended for 2011-2014. The strategy is based on such priorities as strengthening of non-oil sector of the economy, including development of infrastructure and agriculture.
In addition, the bank's activities will focus on improving the effectiveness of social services, including health, education, social protection and water supply systems.
"Priority areas are the same, which were identified at the beginning of the strategy two years ago, they have not changed. We will define what our operations will be - what kind of investment projects and analytical work," Bagirli said.
Azerbaijan has been a member of the World Bank since 1992.
