World’s tallest skyscraper to be built in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan will build the world’s tallest tower outside the capital Baku.
The 1,050 meter Azerbaijan Tower will be constructed on Khazar Islands, a new residential and business complex to be constructed on artificial islands in the Caspian Sea, Haji Ibrahim, president of Avesta concern, which is implementing the project, was quoted by the Baku-based APA news agency as saying.
Previously, the tower was expected to have 185 stories and to be 560 meters high. However, Avesta later revised the project and passed a decision to build the world’s tallest tower in Baku, the report said.
Ibrahim also said the Azerbaijan Tower will be about 200 meters taller than the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, which was commissioned in Dubai last year, and 50 meters taller than the Kingdom Tower, which is due to be constructed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Avesta executives have already discussed their project with representatives of the companies that built Burj Khalifa.
Construction of the Azerbaijan Tower will begin during the second stage of the Khazar Islands project, and the building is due to be commissioned in 2018-2019.
