CDMA operator Catel to be run by two local firms

BAKU – Azerbaijan’s communications ministry is considering the transfer of Catel, the country’s first CDMA operator, to the management of the cellular operator Azerfon and the Baku Telephone Communications, Minister Ali Abbasov has said.
Catel has reported problems since April 1, leading to the shutdown of a network using the wireless communication standard CDMA.
The total number of Catel customers is about 70,000 in the country of 9 million, of whom about 60,000 are CDMA users.
