Within the framework of COP29, the global "Green Growth Portal," developed through cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Harvard University's "Growth Lab" International Development Center, was presented, Azernews reports.

At the event, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized the importance of the portal in fostering global cooperation to achieve sustainable development. He highlighted that green transition strategies will be based on fundamental research. The "Green Growth Portal" will help global energy transition participants identify green development opportunities in each country and leverage these opportunities.

Speaking about the importance of climate issues in economic planning, the Minister stressed the need to integrate economic policies with the supply chain, a concern reflected in the budgets and scope of COP presidency initiatives.

Kenan Najafov, Vice President of SOCAR, highlighted the company's commitment to achieving a "net zero" goal. He outlined efforts related to decarbonization, energy transition, and the implementation of low-carbon solutions. It was also noted that the new portal will contribute to SOCAR’s energy transformation.

Ricardo Hausmann, founder and director of Harvard University's "Growth Lab" International Development Center, addressed the event participants via video. He emphasized the importance of reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy in the fight against global climate change. Hausmann pointed out that the "Green Growth Portal" aims to maximize the economic benefits of the green transition by systematizing green technology supply chains and technological solutions.

Timothy Cheston, Senior Research Manager at the Growth Lab International Development Center, briefed participants on the Green Growth Portal. The portal is planned for integration with Harvard University’s "Atlas of Economic Complexity," which encompasses 250 countries and economic regions and 1.7 million users. It will include analyses and comparative databases based on information from international organizations and various countries.

The project is expected to be fully operational by 2025, and access to the portal will be free of charge.

During the event, which brought together representatives from the government, private sector, international organizations, business associations, academic institutions, and financial bodies, attendees exchanged opinions and participated in a Q&A session.
