Azerbaijan's Energy Minister holds meetings during COP29
Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Pakistan's Minister of State for Petroleum, Musadik Malik, and the CEO of CESI SpA, Nikola Melkiotti, during the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku from November 11 to November 22, Azernews reports.
During the meeting with Musadik Malik, both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between the two countries. The important role of President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Pakistan in July of this year was highlighted in strengthening bilateral ties and determining various areas of cooperation in the energy sector. Opportunities for cooperation between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) in oil products trade and oil and gas infrastructure projects were discussed. The acceleration of bilateral consultations was also emphasized. Additionally, discussions were held on cooperation in renewable energy, and Pakistan was invited to join COP29's energy initiatives.
In his meeting with Nikola Melkiotti, the technical and economic feasibility study (TEAS) of the "Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor" project was reviewed, and the initial results of the study were assessed. The discussion also focused on the role of CESI SpA, which has been engaged as a consulting company for the TEAS of the "Green Energy Development and Transmission Project" between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Topics such as the participation of Bulgaria in the project, the transportation of renewable energy from Central Asian countries through this corridor, infrastructure financing, and the involvement of European companies were also discussed.
