Azerbaijan among most vulnerable countries to climate change effects, Deputy Minister
Azerbaijan is listed among the most vulnerable countries to the negative effects of climate change, as evidenced by dwindling water resources, thinning forests, and declining biodiversity.
Vugar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, made this statement at the 5th Sustainable Development Goals Dialogue titled "Future Echoes: Bridging paths for Climate Action and Global Goals," Azernews reports.
He noted that several factors contribute to this vulnerability.
Karimov emphasized that 20-30 years ago, discussions about the impacts of global climate change focused on two factors: human activity and natural phenomena. However, he pointed out that the intensified warming caused by industrialization over the last 100-150 years is primarily linked to human activity.
He stated, "Various studies indicate that the Earth's crust has warmed by 1.5-2 degrees in the last 10 years. The warming of the Earth's crust by more than 1.5 degrees over the past century underscores the significant role of anthropogenic influences."
