Nakhchivan hosts Climate Change and Human Rights Conference for COP29
In alignment with the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" and in conjunction with Azerbaijan's role as the host for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has emphasized the importance of understanding the impact of climate change on human rights and is spearheading efforts to raise awareness on this critical issue, Azernews reports.
On July 19, a significant conference titled "Climate Change and Human Rights" was organized by the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Law and Human Rights Institute, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Held at the Nakhchivan Business Center, the conference brought together key figures including Gunay Nazarova, a representative from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Office in the autonomous republic; Gunay Rzayeva, the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic; and Alessandra Roccasalvo, Acting Resident Representative of the UNDP in Azerbaijan. The event also saw the participation of officials from state and local executive authorities, representatives from civil society institutions, and environmental volunteers.
