Azeri tycoon buys $60m land plot in Moscow - report

Ethnic Azerbaijani Russian tycoon Telman Ismailov has purchased a
$60 million land plot in Moscow. The land plot is located close to
the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service headquarters, Russia’s RBK
Daily newspaper reported.
Ismailov, the president of the Russian group of companies, AST, purchased the 36 hectare property from the Masshtab company run by Vadim Moshkovich, the owner of the Rusagro group.
Some experts say Ismailov plans to build a huge market or a shopping mall in the area, while others believe that the intelligence service will not allow constructing a noisy trading outlet near its office.
Ismailov once owned the well-known Cherkizov market in the Russian capital. He is said to have fallen out with the Russian authorities after having built the spectacular Mardan Palace hotel in Turkey, and in June 2009, the Cherkizov market was shut down, and the goods sold there were impounded. However, Ismailov, who had lived in Turkey for some time, returned to Russia following a withdrawal that followed the shutdown of the market, after what some believe was his managing to mend ties with the Kremlin.*
