Plant making affordable Chinese cars launched in Azerbaijan
A plant manufacturing cars jointly with a Chinese carmaker has been commissioned in Azerbaijan. The plant, based in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, presented the first vehicle of the NAZ Lifan brand on Monday.
According to Musa Abdullayev, the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant director, the company has begun taking orders.
The plant will be producing five to seven cars per day. Spare parts delivered from China are taken to the workshop for assembly, but some spare parts are manufactured by local specialists.
In the initial stage, 108 vehicles of Chinese carmaker Lifan will be assembled at the plant, with the figure to reach 216 afterwards.
The vehicles will be sold to domestic consumers both for cash and on credit. Prices for Lifan cars range between 8,000 and 14,000 manats (up to $17,500), depending on the model.
The capacities of the Nakhchivan plant are to be expanded in the future and exports of its vehicles are planned.
The Azerbaijani carmaker and the Lifan Corporation signed a cooperation agreement during a joint business forum held in Beijing in May 2009. According to the document, the Nakhchivan plant will be assembling Lifan-320, Lifan-520 and Lifan-620 cars.*
