Azerbaijan, Poland expand cooperation in transport industry

The first meeting of the working group on transport and logistics between Azerbaijan and Poland was held in Warsaw on February 25-26, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies said, Report informs.
The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Valizade from the Azerbaijani side and by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Bittel from the Polish side.
Within framework of the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation in the field of highways and railways, maritime transport, transit and postal services were discussed.
At the same time, the importance of continuing joint activities to fully utilize the transit capabilities of the two countries during cargo transportation within the East-West and South-West transport corridors and to encourage transport along the Trans-Caspian international transport route was noted.
Following the meeting, a protocol was signed.
Azerbaijan and Poland have well-established economic relations. In 2008, for the first time in the history of the two countries' economic relations, Azerbaijan experienced a trade surplus, and turnover of goods between the two countries reached $166.9 million.
Azerbaijan is an important partner of Poland in the South Caucasus and Caspian regions, and Poland attaches a particular importance to boosting its economic cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Moreover, currently, Azerbaijan demonstrates great interest in cooperation with Polish companies both in Azerbaijan and Poland as part of various projects. Azerbaijan takes part in investment projects and invites Polish companies to become partners in the energy, transport and construction projects being implemented in Azerbaijan as contractors.
