High-speed trains on Baku-Ganja route to run at 159 km/h

The high-speed electric trains that are going to run on the Baku-Ganja route, will move at a speed of 159 kilometers per hour, the Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov told reporters Oct. 12.
"It is planned to launch the high-speed trains of the Stadler company on the Baku-Ganja route by the end of the year. The trains have already been delivered to Baku. The passengers will be able to use VIP and business-class railcars. Each railcar will have a small kitchen, refrigerators, the railcars will be provided with wireless internet,” Gurbanov said.
“As for the speed of trains, we have already tested them at a speed of 159 kilometers. In general, they can reach speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour, but at the present moment, the existing conditions do not allow for increasing the speed. However, we will work in this direction," Gurbanov added.
The distance between Baku and Ganja along the highway is 372 kilometers, and along a straight line - 299 kilometers. The estimated time to overcome the distance between Baku and Ganja by vehicle is 5-6 hours.
