Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi city hosted a Turkmen-Azerbaijani working meeting at the level of government delegations of the two countries on the issues of partnership in key spheres on Jan. 31, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have a powerful, economic and transport-communication potential, the practical implementation of which meets both the mutual interests and sustainable development goals in the regional and global dimensions.
In this context, opportunities for boosting cooperation in such strategic spheres as the fuel and energy sector and transport became the topic for discussion.
“With its impressive reserves of hydrocarbon raw materials and modern industrial infrastructure, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are implementing a strategy based on the principles of diversifying energy supply routes to global markets, which opens up broad prospects for fruitful cooperation and access to new joint projects in this area,” the report said.
Great importance is also attached to the implementation of large-scale projects for the creation of transit and transport corridors and logistics nodes with the use of the potential of various modes of transport, in particular, the water and rail one, as well as sea ports of the two neighboring countries, according to the report.
“In this regard, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have very favorable positions from a geopolitical and geo-economic point of view,” said the report.
It was noted that the consistent implementation of the agreements will serve to building up the economic partnership, increasing the volumes and diversification of mutual trade turnover, stimulating investment activity, and, in general, strengthening the Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations.
The report said that on Aug. 8, 2017, the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan was signed at the highest level in Baku.
“This most important document opened a new page in the history of interstate relations, having confirmed the constant desire of the parties to further develop fruitful ties in every possible way, relying on the bonds of friendship and good-neighborliness, the principles of equality and constructiveness and mutual goodwill,” the report noted.
