Azerbaijan sees rise in power generation

Azerenergy JSC, which is the largest electrical power producer in Azerbaijan, generated 10.95 billion kWh of electricity in January-May 2017, as compared to 10.8 billion kWh during the same period of 2016.
The company reported that the power plants of the company produced almost 1.54 billion kWh of electricity in June.
Azerenergy JSC produced 22.6 billion kWh of electricity in 2016, as compared to about 22.5 billion kWh produced in 2015.
The output of hydropower stations was 572.7 million kWh in January-April 2017.
Electricity generation at thermal power stations amounted to 7.06 billion kWh, which is 4.8 percent more than a year earlier.
The output at the hydropower stations amounted to 1.9 billion kWh in 2016, at the thermal power stations – 20.05 billion kWh.
Currently, the country’s energy system is based on the capacity of 14 thermal and over 10 hydro power plants. Over the past 10 years, the power grid of the country increased by 40 percent, which allows not only cover domestic needs, but also forms export potential of the country.
To export surplus electricity, Azerbaijan eyes several major projects, including the Energy Bridge Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey, which will allow Azerbaijan to export to Europe about 700 MW of electricity a year.
