Azerbaijan, Jordan keen on strengthening economic, trade ties

Azerbaijan and Jordan plan to further strengthen economic and trade relations, said Nassar Ibrahim Mohammad Al-Habashneh, Jordan’s Ambassador to Baku.

The diplomat, talking to Trend, said that more than 30 agreements and protocols were signed between the two countries as of today.

“However, a lot of time has passed since the signing of these documents, and therefore, today there is a need to review all these documents,” added the ambassador.

He noted that during the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which is scheduled for the second half of 2017, the parties will be able to review all agreements and determine which obstacles stand on the way of development of the trade and economic ties.

A business forum with participation of both countries’ entrepreneurs and investors is planned to be held as part of the upcoming meeting of intergovernmental commission, said the ambassador.

The two sides will be able to discuss the nearest and future prospects for cooperation.

The parties will also discuss the opportunities for creating joint enterprises, as well as the ways of strengthening relations between the state enterprises, according to Al-Habashneh.

Jordan recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991. Diplomatic relations between the countries were established in February 1993. The embassy of Azerbaijan in Jordan was opened in March 2006, the Jordan embassy opened in March 2007.

The Jordan Kingdom relates to Azerbaijan as reliable economic and political ally. Jordan repeatedly voiced intention to activate ties with Azerbaijan, which turns recently to the leading country in South Caucasus and to invest heavily in economy of the country.
