In case Iran needs additional power in summer months, Azerbaijan will meet a part of this demand in accordance with the agreement reached, Iran's Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian told APA.

Reminding that his country’s need for energy increases in summer months, the minister said that the matter is about 130 MW.

“Necessary infrastructure has been created for energy exchange,” he added.

The transmission lines of both countries were synchronized in August 2016.

Azerbaijan has already turned from a country importing electricity to the country exporting it. The export potential is growing, while the country enjoys the relevant infrastructure for transmission of electricity.

Power plants of Azerenerji JSC generated 7.9 billion kilowatt hour of electricity in January-April 2017 compared to 7.57 billion kilowatt hour in the same period of 2016, the company said in a message May 4.

Azerenerji JSC is the main producer of electricity in Azerbaijan.

The company’s power plants generated 22.6 billion kilowatt hour of electricity in 2016 compared to 22.5 billion kilowatt hour in 2015.
