By Rashid Shirinov
A container terminal of the Petlim port, which belongs to Turkey’s Petkim petrochemical complex, will start operating this week within the first phase of the port’s construction project, Petkim reported on December 5.
The port’s transshipment capacity will amount to 800,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) within the first phase of its construction project.
“The Dutch APM Terminals company, which is the operator of the project, will start working this week. Thus, the first phase of the project will be officially launched,” the report reads.
Currently, 10 large container ports operate in Turkey.
Turkish petrochemical complex Petkim and the Dutch APM Terminals inked an agreement for the construction of the Petlim port in March 2013.
Market value of the Turkish Petkim petrochemical complex is currently estimated at $2.2 billion.
Petkim produces plastic packages, fabrics, detergents, and is the sole Turkish manufacturer of such products, while a quarter of the volume is exported.
SOCAR Turkey has a controlling stake in Petkim petrochemical complex. Overall, SOCAR Turkey has been implementing many projects to help reinforcing economic relations between the two countries, which enjoy fraternal relations.
