India seeks to open direct flights to Azerbaijan

India is interested in the opening of direct flights to Azerbaijan.
Indian Ambassador Sanjay Ranani made the remark during his meeting with Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev, the ministry reported on September 20.
The ambassador noted that his country is also interested in deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of culture, art, film, and tourism.
Moreover, Minister Garayev invited the India envoy to participate in the IV Forum on Intercultural Dialogue to be held in Baku in April 2017.
The current state of cooperation existing between Azerbaijan and India and its prospects were discussed at the meeting.
India and Azerbaijan have age-old historical relations and shared traditions. The bilateral relations and cultural ties between the two countries are very close.
India’s bilateral trade with Azerbaijan has been growing steadily in recent years. The trade turnover between India and Azerbaijan amounted to $142.36 million in January-June 2016 (compared to $180.89 million in the same periof of 2015), according to Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.
The items of direct and indirect imports from India are clothes and textiles, information technologies, food items and heavy machinery.
