Irish swimming team delighted to be represented at Baku 2015
Irish swimming team is delighted to be represented at the First
European Games being held in Baku, Sports News, Irish independent
sports news website reported.
“We are delighted to be represented at the First European Games by
12 of Ireland’s finest junior swimmers, they are a young team and
have been working hard in the run up to the Games, we are hopeful
for a number of top 16 and top 8 performances over the 5 days of
competition,” Swim Ireland National Performance Director Peter
Banks said.
The Irish swimming team began competition Tuesday, on June 23 at
the first European Games in Baku.
The team, led by Pearse McGuigan (Swim Ireland Connacht Performance
Centre Coach) and assisted by Peter Hill (Larne ASC), will compete
from the 23rd – 28th June at the Baku Aquatics Centre.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till
June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic
sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to
represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was
awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in
December 2012.
