Why does Armenian government hide irrefutable facts?
By Laman Sadigova
No matter how much the Armenian authorities claimed not to politicize the ongoing "electricity" protests taking place in Yerevan, the truth emerges on its own. The more time passes, the more the pitfalls are coming to the surface.
High gas prices, huge taxes, financial exhaustion, alarming rates of emigration and drastic income disparity,– this is just a small amount of problem that must be resolved, a small amount of problems that Armenian government is trying to hide behind the electricity problem, a small needle in a haystack.
The authorities officially prohibited using a political explanation for the ongoing events, possibly because they are aware of the consequences that might mean a change in government.
No palpable result has been reached. Electricity rates still remain the same and are expected to increase.
Two weeks of protests on Baghramyan Avenue showed us the deplorable policies of not only Armenian government, but also the opposition. It is likely that the fear that Armenian people feel towards their future causes many to be silent. Who will guarantee people protesting on the Avenue safe life after everything calms down?
Human rights were once again were violated in Armenia and the world desperately tries not to notice.
The current problems in Armenia demand a new approach, a new government, since the current one cannot handle them.
As for the society, it should draw the appropriate conclusions and finally realize that there are no small separate problems. The country has political problems that need to be solved by using more radical means.
