Azerbaijani army destroys second Armenian drone in a day

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Armenian Armed Forces on December 12, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported.

The UAV was destroyed over the line of contact between the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in Azerbaijan’s Talish village while attempting to perform reconnaissance over the country’s army positions, the ministry said.

This is the second Armenian drone downed by Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces on December 12. The first UAV was destroyed over the line of contact in Azerbaijan’s Fizuli region.

Last month, the Azerbaijani armed forces destroyed two drones of Armenia – one in Fizuli region, and the second on the line of contact in the direction of Azerbaijan’s Tartar region. The UAVs were doing reconnaissance flights over the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.

Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
