Top Iranian official holds talks with Syrian PM
Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi hold phone
talks with Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi on Tuesday
evening,Trend news agency reported referring to Mehr agency.
Rahimi noted that Iran welcomes Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad's
plan to make reforms in the country.
On Sunday, Assad outlined in his first speech in months his vision
to end the conflict that the UN says has killed 60,000 people.
The president called for an end to the violence and dialogue with
opposition figures he deemed acceptable to chart a future
course.
Rahimi also said that terrorists and foreign forces should be aware
of the fact that Syrian people want reforms and peace, and that
they do not accept foreign mediators in the country.
Rahimi also mentioned the necessity of the meetings between Syrian
and Iranian officials.
In particular, he poke of the upcoming visit of Syrian prime
minister to Tehran.
While not disclosing any details, Rahimi expressed hope that the
visit would lead to strengthening of bilateral relations between
Iran and Syria.
