By Kamila Aliyeva
Turkmenistan has held scaly exploration operations and 2D and 3D seismic surveys to discover new oil and gas fields.
The report was made public during the meeting devoted to the results of oil and gas companies in 2016.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Yagshigeldy Kakaev, head of state concerns Turkmengaz , Turkmenoil, Turkmenneftegazstroy, as well as state corporation Turkmengeologiya and the industry research institute.
The meeting discussed uninterrupted supply of natural gas to new settlements, its safe and efficient use, as well as the installation of meters for measuring the volume of gas consumption.
Turkmenistan, which is rich with oil and gas resources, opened about two hundred oil and gas fields so far. Potential hydrocarbon resources of the country amount to 71.2 billion tons of oil equivalent, of which 53 billion falls on the land, and 18.2 billion tons - on marine areas.
The second largest gas field in the world is situated in the east of Turkmenistan. According to the British Gafney, Cline & Associates, reserves of Galkynysh together with the nearby the Yashlar field are estimated at 26.2 trillion cubic meters of gas, and when taking into account the reserves of newly discovered hearth Garakel was included in this block, it has reached 27.4 trillion cu m.
Currently, Turkmenistan exports gas to Iran and China. The route of the transnational Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline is under construction.
Turkmenistan has great opportunities for future which lie in exploration and development of oil and natural gas fields, especially Galkynysh, Osman, Minara, Tagtabazar-I, offshore blocks, and the Central Karakum group of fields and construction of gas treatment and processing units at the above mentioned fields.
