Azerbaijani president inspects construction work at West Chirag platform
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev inspected on July 23 construction and installation work at the West Chirag platform, AzerTag state news agency reported.
The head of state was told that the foundation stone for the platform was laid in 2010. The West Chirag platform has the heaviest jacket ever built in the Caspian. The jacket has a total weight of 18,200 tonnes (which includes 1500 tonnes of floatation tanks) and is about 185 metres high. It is comprised of 13 piles (12 plus one spare) with a total weight of 6,700 tons, seven risers, eight j-tubes and ten caissons. Over 2,000 people including sub contractors and specialist vendors, were involved in the construction work. Some 96 percent of the workforce was Azerbaijani nationals. The jacket was built by the local company BOS Shelf, which is now fully owned by SOCAR.
President Aliyev met constructors here and praised their work.
