Nuke talks cannot solve Iran’s economic problems

Nuke talks cannot solve Iran’s economic problems

Resolving the economic problems of the Islamic Republic is independent of settling the nuclear case, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

“The key for solving the economic problems is not in Lausanne, Geneva or New York, but at home,” Khamaeni said.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a number of Iranian laborers in Tehran on April 29, IRNA news agency reported.

The Iranian administration should focus on domestic production, in order to settle the economic problems, Khamenei said.

“I do not deny the effects of the oppressive sanctions imposed by the enemies, but it should not prevent organized and planned public efforts to boost domestic production,” he underlined.

“There will be nothing impossible if you make decision and efforts even under the terms of the tough sanctions,” Khamanei said.

He further noted that the government should ban using imported goods.

Khamenei’s statements came at the same day that President Hassan Rouhani underlined the significance of economic growth and the future of the country’s economy once economic sanctions are removed. However Rouhani said that his administration managed to control economic inflation and boost production even before the sanctions are removed.

Iran and the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) reached a nuclear framework agreement on April 2 that raised hopes for achieving a comprehensive nuclear deal by June 30. The deal provisions the removal of all international sanctions on Iran and in return narrowing the range of the country’s nuclear activities.
