Georgia open for energy transit
Georgia is open for the transit of energy resources, goods and other resources, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said.
He made the remark while speaking at the second United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries that kicked off in Vienna.
"Georgia is not a landlocked country, however, it has close ties with such countries in accordance with its policy. Georgia implements the most important transit function for such countries," the president said.
He said eight of 14 developing countries, namely, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan benefit from Georgia's transit opportunities.
Margvelashvili added that there is a free trade regime between Georgia and the abovementioned countries.
After gaining independence, Georgia set a strategic goal to tie the energy resources of Central Asia to the European market, and vice versa, the president noted. "Our country is open both for the transit of energy resources and trade," he said.
Margvelashvili also emphasized the significance of infrastructure projects which are jointly implemented by Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
