Russia rejects rumors about damaging Busher NPP

Earthquakes in Iran have not inflicted any harm to Busher nuclear power plant, source in Rosatom told RIA Novosti.

"These allegations are absolute nonsense. At the station everything is all right, earthquakes do not have any influence on it. Currently, nuclear power plant is preparing for the launch," source in Rosatom said.

He added that at present, the station is carried out work on verification of equipment.

As Associated Press reported, diplomats said countries monitoring Iran's nuclear program have picked up information that the country's only power-producing nuclear reactor was damaged by one or more recent earthquakes.

Two diplomats say long cracks have appeared in at least one section of the structure.

They demanded anonymity Tuesday because they are not authorized to divulge confidential information.

Officials in Tehran assured the international community after the quakes struck in April and early May that the facility at Bushehr, south of Tehran, was undamaged.
