Turkmenistan to supply electricity to Turkey
The Turkmenenergo State Corporation will conclude a contract for the supply of electricity to Turkey with a Turkish company Gent Elektrik Enerjisi Toptan Satiş A.Ş, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan said.
The relevant decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, according to which this will diversify supply routes and increase the volume of foreign exchange funds entering the country.
It is about 600 million kilowatt / hours per year (± 20 percent) from 1 July 2013 to 1 July 2016 on the terms of settlement.
Turkmenistan has adopted the Concept for development of the electric power industry for 2013-2020. Investment to the sum exceeding $5 billion is expected to be allocated in this sector.
There are currently 10 power plants operating in Turkmenistan as well as 32 turbines, including 14 steam turbines, 15 gas turbines and three water turbines. The volume of electricity produced has increased by 138 percent in 2007-2012.
