Three die in avalanche in Iran, official included

Three people died in avalanche in Abali area, about 50 km to the east of Iran’s capital city of Tehran, Mehr news agency reported February 3.
One of the victims was in charge of road maintenance in the eastern Tehran Province.
Officials said 27 out of Iran’s 31 provinces have been hit by a wave of cold air with heavy precipitation. Abali’s temperature fell to about 10 degrees Celsius the night of the avalanche.
During the past 24 hours, 24 people have been rescued and some 8,000 people were given emergency shelter. 37 received outpatient care.
Authorities said during the mentioned time 2,763 cars were rescued from heavy snow.
