Baku to witness colorful Malaysian culture

Baku will host the first ever Malaysia Culture Festival
celebration between September 18 and 20 at the National Seaside
Park - Boulevard (behind the Puppet Theater.)
The official opening ceremony of the program is scheduled for
September 19 at 03:00pm and will be co-officiated by the Deputy
Secretary of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Culture Datuk Haji
Abdul Ghaffar A. Tambi.
Attendees will include ambassadors and the representatives from
abroad, as well as, representatives from the relevant ministries in
Azerbaijan.
The festival is consistent with the Malaysian government’s policy
of raising Malaysia’s image at the international arena and also to
attract more people to get to know the culture and heritage of this
country.
During the three-day event, guests will have a chance to enjoy a
wide range of entertainment, including cultural performances, where
the audience can get acquainted with Malaysian music and
traditional dance performances that display the uniqueness of the
various ethnic groups of Malaysia.
The heritage exhibition will showcase the country’s cuisine (Teh
Tarik, Roti Canai and Apam Balik among served foods) and
traditional games (congkak, sepak takraw and Dam Haji.)
An impressive craft show will also interest guests. Malaysian batik
and various kinds of beads and ceramic items will be put on display
during the festival.
Tourism Malaysia will set up a booth to promote tourism and
cultural products, as well as, selling tourism packages run by
tourism agents in Azerbaijan.
The event will be implemented through cooperation between the
Malaysian Tourism and Culture Ministry, the Foreign Ministry
through its Embassy in Baku, as well as, the Azerbaijan Tourism and
Culture Ministry.
In conjunction with the National Day, the Embassy of Malaysia will also host a reception at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku hotel on September 16. During the reception, guests will have the chance to taste Malaysia delicacies for the Malaysia Food Promotion, which has started from September 14 and ends September 20.
Malaysia recognized Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries was established in
1993. The Malaysian embassy in Baku began to function in 2014.
Azerbaijanis are able to receive a 30-day free visa to
Malaysia.
