Azerbaijan, Jordan strengthening bilateral ties

Azerbaijan and Jordan mulled the cooperation issues as Sabir
Aghabeyov, Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Amman has met Lana Mamkegh,
Jordanian Minister of Culture.
Speaking on the fraternal relations between the two countries
Mamkegh noted that the personal friendship between the heads of
states played an important role in strengthening the bilateral
ties, AzerTag state news agency reported.
“The high level of existing bilateral political ties makes contribution to expansion of cultural cooperation,” she underlined.
The minister hailed the organization of the Jordanian Cultural
Days in Baku in 2009 and the Azerbaijani Cultural Days in Jordan in
2010.
She praised the services of the Embassy in organization of Baku
trips for winners of the essay competition “What do I know about
Azerbaijan” among Jordanian students and students of the
Philadelphia University, the participants of the “Univision”
Student Song Contest.
The minister said Jordan was keen on close cooperation with
Azerbaijan, and stressed the importance of expanding fraternal and
cooperative relations in the field of culture.
Aghabeyov, for his turn, stressed the Azerbaijani side was always
ready for cooperation with Jordan.
The ambassador also informed the Jordanian side on the Bloody
January events, committed against Azerbaijani people. He added
despite all efforts of the former Soviet leadership, Azerbaijani
people managed to restore their independence after 20 months from
the January 20 events.
He also touched upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict, saying more than a million of Azerbaijanis became
refugees and IDPs.
He noted that Armenians destroyed hundreds of cultural and art objects in the occupied Azerbaijani territories.
The Jordan Kingdom relates to Azerbaijan as reliable economic and political ally. Jordan repeatedly voiced intention to activate ties with Azerbaijan, which is the leading country in South Caucasus and to invest heavily in economy of the country.
Amman and Baku also have ambitious plans to expand their cooperation in education, culture and other fields to serve the interests of their peoples.
Azerbaijani Embassy was opened in Jordan in 2006. In 2007, Jordan Embassy was established in Azerbaijan.
