Governor of California Edmund "Jerry" Brown congratulated Azerbaijan on successful performance of Azerbaijani ballet "Seven Beauties" in California State.
The famous ballet "Seven Beauties" was performed on October 11 in San Diego. Sponsored by Azerbaijan's Culture and Tourism Ministry and presented by Azerbaijan's Consulate General in Los Angeles, the performance was the premiere of the ballet in the United States.
To conduct a research into the piece, Director of the San Diego Ballet Javier Velasco spent four days in June in the Azerbaijani city of Baku, where he pieced together fragments of a past ballet and score of "Seven Beauties."
In his message, Brown congratulated Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the country's Consulate General in Los Angeles on the successful performance of the ballet, the Consulate said on October 21.
"Seven Beauties celebrates ethnic diversity, extols the beauty of other cultures, and praises the wisdom of women," Brown said.
He concluded his message by thanking the organizers "for bringing the Seven Beauties ballet to the people of California in San Diego."
Over 3,000 Americans enjoyed the stunning performance including many American elected officials, as well as Congresswoman Susan Davis.
Composed in 1952 by the famous Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev, the ballet is based on motifs of the "Seven Beauties" poem, written by great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi in 1197.
The story revolves around a young prince who is destined to become the ruler of the world, but he must first encounter seven beautiful princesses from different countries who teach him important lessons he must heed in order to fulfill his calling.
